Pistons
and piston rods
CPI supplies a full range of high quality pistons
and piston rods for use in a broad range of gas
compressors which are manufactured in stainless
or alloy steels, aluminium and nodular cast iron,
covering the full spectrum of gases and operating
conditions.
The companys experience and expert technical knowledge
of reciprocating compressor design and operation
ensures that the optimum materials, surface treatments
and sealing components are appropriate for the intended
application of each compressor and its operating
condition. This can often be part of an upgrade
to an existing compressor, or a re-design to improve
or eliminate problems, such as converting to a multi-bolting
system.
Piston
rod reconditioning
CPI also offers a reconditioning service enabling
used piston rods to be restored to as new condition.
Included in the reconditioning procedure is a detailed
inspection of the entire rod which includes the
rods straightness, thread condition and freedom
from surface cracks or other defects, to verify
its suitability for re-use.

Quality
Assurance
CPI operates a quality system throughout its
manufacturing plants which conforms to ISO9000
(BS5750). This discipline is rigorously applied
to all pistons and rods recognising the critical
task which they must perform in service.
To achieve this high standard of quality,
CPI undertakes certain minimum procedures
including:
Careful selection of the best raw
materials, with supplier audits
Chemical and mechanical certification
of all raw material with full traceability
Ultrasonic inspection
of raw materials for internal defects |
Appropriate
heat treatments and stress relieving to achieve
specified tensile strength and freedom from
residual stresses
Induction hardening, nitriding or
special hard coating of the packing area,
depending on the application
Rolling of all main threads
Careful finish grinding to precise
size and surface finish tolerances
Magnetic particle inspection
Surface finish and hardness inspection
Dimensional inspection, including
straightness
Full inspection report, including
documentary certification for all heat treatments
and N.D.T. inspections |
